Need For Speed Stalls at the Box Office


In this weekends box office the video game movie, Need for Speed revved its engines with not much to back it up. The PG-13, Action Thriller based on  the most successful racing video game franchise ever with over 140 million copies sold. The 66 million dollar budget of the film is set at -44.5 million under breaking even, with only grossing 21.5 million in the box office this past weekend. With Rotten Tomatoes critics giving it a 24% and audience giving it a generous 68% rating. Imdb gives the move a 7.4 out of 10. In hopes of the movie catching fire they brought in Aaron Paul of "Breaking Bad" as the main character Toby Marshall.

Both Disney and Dream Work don't strive to just break even, that's not what made them both such successful companies.  In hopes of a Frozen like come back as the weeks roll on after its release date. If not these two powerhouse studios could be looking at there first 2014 loss with this film. Both companies have strong films coming out in the coming months that should turn the tides quickly, like How to Train Your Dragon 2, The Muppets Most Wanted, Maleficent, ect.

Need for Speed summary (logline):

Fresh from prison, a street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins.
